In 2005 I met a farmer who had his farm in the foreland of the IJessel.  He lives there alone and I photographed him in his kitchen.   His only big hobby were his horses.  

He owned a couple of old fashioned work-horses called Brabanders.  He told me that if I ever wanted to come back when the weather was good, he would put the horses to the cart and take me for a ride.

When I had the picture ready I thought not to send it to him like I normally would have done, but to bring it to him.  I waited until the weather was good and we would be with my parents in the Achterhoek.  I called him up and told him that I wanted to bring over the picture and that maybe now was a good time to come with my children for the ride. 

Of course he agreed and the girls were thrilled.  My father went with us too and they all had a great time, especially the farmer Hendrik Jan.
